J-P and the WDR Sinfonieorchester will make live concert recordings Beethoven’s complete symphonies, starting with symphonies 1-5, on 17 and 18 November 2017 at the Cologne Philharmonie.

The moment for recording a Beethoven cycle has been carefully considered by J-P, as he says:

My musical collaboration with WDR Symphony has developed through the performance of Beethoven’s symphonies, and the conviction we’ve felt in performing his work has also been reflected in our performances of other composers’ music, such as Brahms, Bruckner, and even Sibelius. Now, after eight years and many memorable performances with the WDR Symphony, I feel that it is a good moment to record this cycle, with this orchestra.

To me, Beethoven has always been a symbol of what a single individual with great strength and independence can contribute to this world, an idea which is perhaps more relevant than ever in the times that we are living in.
