Jukka-Pekka and the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne return to Salzburg for their second residency at the Großes Festspielhaus, with concerts on 21, 22 and 23 May.

The orchestra will perform three different programmes over three days, and this year these will include performances by Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Truls Mørk and Vilde Frang. The concerts mark Jukka-Pekka’s last concerts of the 2013/14 season with the WDR Symphony Orchestra. The residency is highly prized.

“A residency like this is very valuable” he says, “It’s great to have the opportunity to repeat repertoire that we have been playing in the course of the season, with fantastic soloists. Big improvements always happen when you get to work intensively with different programmes; the performances become more unified, and this brings the orchestra forwards. The orchestra musicians can then enjoy the repertoire more and express themselves even more confidently.

We can run through so much more repertoire through having a residency planned – the orchestra becomes more alert, flexible and communicative. This has to happen when you play a lot of different styles with many different requirements. We are already in the process of planning the programme for our next visit to Salzburg.”
