Friedrich Cerha © Manu Theobald
7&10 February 2014
Jukka-Pekka conducts the world premiere of Friedrich Cerha’s Drei Orchesterstücke in Cologne and brings the WDR Symphony to Vienna with a programme of Viennese music.
These concerts are part of the WDR Symhony Orchestra’s contemporary music series, Musik der Zeit, and will include the world premiere on Friday 9 February of Friedrich Cerha’s Drei Orchesterstücke. Three Fragments from Berg’s Wozzeck will follow, performed by Barbara Hannigan, and the programme will be rounded off with Kurtag’s Stele. Jukka-Pekka says “Kurtag is one of the most important composers of our time, and I think Stele is his masterpiece for big orchestra.”
For the orchestra’s guest appearance in Vienna at the Konzerthaus, Beethoven’s 5th symphony will complete the programme. Jukka-Pekka is thrilled that the WDR Symphony is bringing a programme of just these composers to Vienna, and says:
“It is very exciting to bring Viennese music to Vienna, with Beethoven and
Berg, and also a new piece by Cerha, who is one of the most important living
composers of the Viennese tradition.”
