30th Anniversary concert of Avanti! Chamber Orchestra

On Saturday 28th September the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra celebrated their 30th Anniversary with a celebratory concert at the Old Student House in Helsinki. The Anniversary concert featured an impressive line-up of artists including Jukka-Pekka Saraste conducting Schoenberg’s Chamber Symphony No. 1, John Storgårds conducting Wennäkoski, cellist Anssi Karttunen performing Lutoslawski and composer Magnus Lindberg conducting his own works.

The ensemble, founded by Saraste with Esa-Pekka Salonen and Olli Pohjola, has successfully presented contemporary and rarely-performed repertoire – much of it unknown in Finland at the time – for three, decades and has invited many of the most important composers of our time, including among others Henze, Kagel and Donatoni.
