Jukka-Pekka Saraste made conductor laureate of Oslo Philharmonic

Jukka-Pekka Saraste has conducted his final concerts as Chief Conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic, a position he has held since 2006. With two performances of Mahler’s Second Symphony, an important chapter in the history of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra has been finished. The concerts took place at the Oslo Concert House, a fitting end for his time with the Norwegian orchestra.

As a sign of the orchestra’s gratitude and desire to continue their work together Jukka-Pekka has been appointed conductor laureate of the orchestra. He plans to continue his relationship with the orchestra in the future and in March 2014 will bring the Oslo Philharmonic to the Helsinki Music Centre for a performance of Mahler’s Sixth Symphony. His recording of Mahler’s ‘Tragic’ Symphony with the Oslo Philharmonic on Simax received rave reviews. Click here to read all reviews for this CD.
